She would have been 100!

Yesterday was May 10, 2012.  Mozelle Kirkham Winnard would have been 100.

It’s hard to believe that Grandma has been gone for 9 years!  She passed 3 days before her 91st birthday in 2003 and we held her funeral and said goodbye on that day.    This picture of her 7 children and their spouses was taken that day in the church foyer.

Grandma Winnard at Apache

This is a picture of Mozelle Winnard while visiting Apache probably in 1990 or 1991 since I think Mike was a HS Senior.  Except Elizabeth who wasn’t yet born, all of Robert’s grand kids are in the picture.  They are grandma’s great grand kids, Robert, Lindsay, Erika, Charles and Michael.  You can see a bigger version if you click on the picture.  The resolution is low so it’s a bit grainy. I’ll be scanning more pictures as I find them….

The New Winnard Homestead

This house was built a little west of the old place.  It was close enough to walk over and check it out.  I’m not sure when they finally tore the rest of it down.  I moved away in 1972 and didn’t come back to Oklahoma until 1977 so I missed a lot.  I think Grandma is standing on the porch with her scarecrow.  She always had a big garden and lots of fruit trees.  She had to put up a fence to keep the cows from eating too much fruit.  They still got enough. Their necks could really stretch over that fence.  I posted a picture awhile back that was taken in the front yard of this house and it was in color!  Imagine that…I’ll dig out pictures of holidays when it was cold outside and we were all inside…talk about crowded.

The Old Winnard Homestead

Wow, it’s hard to believe that Grandma actually lived in this house until her house was built in the early 70′s.  This is the place where most of my childhood memories with her were made. We also spent a lot of time at Grandma Kirkham’s house, especially in the winter or when the weather was too bad to get to this house.  Many a switch was taken from that tree!

See the add on at the east end?  That was the bathroom.  I don’t remember running water ever going to the bathtub but I remember the old wash tub.  The first one in got clean water and everyone else got a hefty does of liquid Lysol.  I still use Lysol and  think about that house when I smell original Lysol.

When I was really young Grandma still had cows and milked them every morning.  I remember being awakened by the cream separator ding! I remember going to the barn a couple of times but I think she thought it was less hassle to let me sleep. That must be why I call it the old farm house.

I  always felt welcome there. I welcome comments about your experience in this house.

I know that every person’s recollection is different.  I’ve had discussions with cousins who remember things very differently but we are all products of our own mind.  Just sayin’!

Summer of 1994

The following video was clipped from the 1994 reunion at K&L. It is special because several people in attendance didn’t normally come and some are no longer with us.  The camera was placed quite a distance from the people being filmed so the voices don’t match up.  I didn’t remove the sound because some may find it humorous.

Grandpa Winnard

Grandpa Winnard 1956

1956

This is a picture of Grandpa Winnard.  To the best of my knowledge it was taken around 1956 before he died in 1958.  That’s all I know so if anyone knows more, please provide the information via comments or email.

Family at the farm

Family At Grandma's

If my memory serves me well, this was taken around Easter (1983 or 1984?) at Grandma Winnard’s.  Has anybody changed?  The babies in the picture are now as old as some of us older ones were then.  Click on the picture to see  a larger version.  Lots of perms…..I think everyone in the picture probably has a few gray hairs by now.  :-)

I have a few (pictures, certainly not more gray hairs) more but it’ll be awhile before I scan them.  I’m trying to find the disc with the old pictures Eddie and Linda put together.  I’ll post them with as much information as I have.  Please feel free to leave comments.  You’ll have to provide your name and email to register.  By doing so you also give permission for me (Roberta or another family administrator) to contact you via email but we won’t share your information without your permission.

I also send updates to my friends and family on Facebook when I update things here.  Don’t forget that if you are family and have a business website, Facebook page, etc., I’ll post it here if you wish.

Spread the Word!

If you’re visiting this page, there is a good chance that you are related to the Winnards, Kirkhams or both.  Check back often for updates.  We need more participation because I won’t post specific family information unless it is approved by that family.

I’m putting specific family information in pages on the right.  If you are a Winnard and have a business website, I’ll post it here as well.

Welcome Winnards!

arthur and mozelle winnardI decided to setup this site so I can do live updates from any computer instead of being tied to my desk and my website software.

I’ll be posting more old pictures soon.  If you would like to provide pictures or share information about you’re family, I can do it here.

One thing to remember, if it’s posted here, it’s public so we don’t want to put any personal information here like full birth dates & full names.  Girls, stop using your maiden names for passwords.  Choose another term for your personal identification because your maiden name is fairly easy to find using the internet.

Please share with your family members and let’s catch up.  You may also post comments here.

The picture in the upper right corner was taken in Aunt Betty’s garden a couple of years ago when Dad and I visited.
